WIND

No free breakfast at this place, so we might try the Quality Inn across the street next time. Breakfast buffet is $13 each. I'm not hungry, if I had seen the soup on the menu last night, that is all I would have gotten. Instead I ended up with a quarter pounder.

BB has looked at the weather and it will be 'iffy' at best. We decide to stop for fuel in an hour at a TA/Shell. Shell limits their discount to 20 gallons, and then the credit card won't work a second time to restart the pump so that is all we put in.

Winds were throwing us a little so we decided to stop for breakfast, had the buffet. Only $10 here. Bacon was really good but I can only eat so much of it. Some egg back was also pretty good. We were there at 9 AM and some of the stuff it looked like we were the only ones who had taken any.

After over an hour we finally decided to do the day a section at a time. More or less stop at each town that had motels to see if we should go further. We also looked at going even further out of route to get around the weather but that would be a lot of two lane highways.

1st leg was about an hour and a half and we stopped at a rest area/oasis right before Wichita. We usually take the back roads from Emporia, but today I wanted to stay on the four lane as long as possible. So we ended up on the toll road.

2nd leg, we decided to keep going. It is still mostly four lane until Pratt. On the way we stop at a Walmart where gas is $2.20. Lowest we've seen so we fill.

3rd leg, there are a couple of short spots of two lane highway and that is enough for us to decide to get off the highway. We are really getting rocked and thrown every time we meet a semi. We stop in Pratt and make reservations, it is only 3 PM and we have only done 260 miles. It's taken us eight hours to get a four hours drive.

We end up at a Comfort Inn.

Weather looks about the same for tomorrow. High winds forecast and for here. For most of the next 300+ miles the road is mostly two lane with some passing lanes. IF we can make 500 miles tomorrow, we can still make it for Wednesday delivery. I'm not counting on it at this point.
