We are 'waiting for work' so I am still showing this as part of the MN to CA run.

No work so we have a two day re-start.

Slept in until 5 AM local, don't want to get to used to this time zone. Went down for breakfast at 7 AM. We aren't the only ones here but it seems like it. This place is still re-doing the rooms. About a dozen cars in the lot so maybe one third - one fourth full. Usual eggs, sausage and yogurt. Haven't been on a scale, might have to go back to one or the other.

Rental car needed to be back by 10 AM so we left the motel at 9 AM. Planned on fueling next door but everything was coned off. Prices still on the sign but all cones. But lots of stations. Rental car place was busy and the lot was full. Maybe took us a half hour to get in and out.

Forecast was for rain today but it is mostly clear right now so we head to Santa Cruz. About an hour from where we are. We went through it last time we were here and luckily hadn't stopped as we got a call for a run shortly after passing through. I hadn't looked at directions so BB was telling me where to go as we drove. Got near where we wanted to be and I took a different turn than she had looked at and ended up ON the pier instead of next to it. Next to it had maybe 15 spots, out on the pier has room for 100.

We parked and walked on the pier for a while. Nice but windy, cap on tight, or backwards, or not at all. Pretty quiet here, off season. Parking on the pier today is $1 an your. Peak season it is $3 an hour. A few shops on the pier, a half dozen places to eat ... and a view. Also lots of sea lions hanging out today under the pier, some of them had found a way to get up on the lower beams. We only saw one try to get up and it found a beam that was loose and it just flipped it back in the water.

After looking at most of the menu's we ended up at Woodies Cafe. BB got the fish and chips, I got a Hawaiian burger. Not a lot of non-fish choices. There computer crashed while we were ordering so we were there an hour plus. Food was really good, even the fries. We had a window seat so we could watch all the surfers.

Then we went for a walk on land, the pier is right next to an amusement park. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Sounds like it has the longest running horse carousel. Two of their rides are on the National Historic Landmark list. This carousel was built in 1911. This place is always 'open.' Meaning you can walk through it at any time. Very few rides open to day, plus a few vendors. Not many people and fewer customers. This part of the walk likely took us about an hour and then we were done.

Took a short drive to one of the light houses, just drove past and turned around. From up here on the cliff we could now see a lot more serfers. A dozen, maybe two.

Headed back the way we came, then turned south on the 101. Did get to see a little of the town of Morgan Hill as BB just pegged in the city and not the motel. Depending on the software you are using it will take you either to the center of town, city hall or the post office. We got to see the city hall. Didn't realize it until it said "your destination is on the left." Then a couple of blocks from the motel, we pass an RV dealer we've delivered to. Not sure when, couldn't find it yet, but we both remember it.

Tonight could end up being an expensive night out. 1st we pay $15 for a buffet that was mostly a salad bar and then coming back to the hotel I swing wide turning onto your street in the dark and rain and hit a drop off and do some minor damage to the rental car.

We spend a lot of time online looking at places to eat and BB finally picks a Mexican place. It's only a couple of miles, when we get close there are cop cars and fire trucks in the area so we are circling through the crowded parking lot. We finally find a parking spot and walk inside. There is a line and they are taking names. We don't even put our names on the list, we don't want to wait.

So now it's my choice, we drive past the deli before I realize it is there. And I'm not sure what I want. At a buffet I can decide what I want as I stand there.

We keep driving across the street and are at Sizzler. I must have forgotten something about them or this one is different. $15 and very little hot food. Taco and spaghetti fixings for hot food. Soft serve and toppings for desert. The rest was salad bar items. Over all they likely have more items than Shoney's but very little hot food.

But I still got full. Could have gotten just as full across the parking lot. As we were walking back to our car, I noticed that Mike's Pizza had an all you can eat buffet for $10.

THEN coming back to the motel, I overshoot the turn in the dark and hit a drop off. Not good. Not a lot of damage but each piece can add up to big bucks. But, it's done now.

IA board is back to -0-. Now work to go back for there. A few in MN but nothing in WI either.
