We had decided to stay in El Centro instead of El Cajon to save a little money (and stay away from the homeless.) But we still wanted to deliver close to their start time in El Cajon. That meant getting up and rolling by 6 am there time. OK, that is 8 am our time but it is still dark here and they aren't serving breakfast yet.

Nice full moon over the palms. Not much traffic. Seemed to get light very quickly as we are going through the mountains. All of a sudden, lots of traffic. Not sure where they came from ... maybe they just left El Centro later than we did, there isn't much else out here.

... And my fuel gauge started to drop and then the light came on with over 50 miles to go. I thought it was going to come on with about 20 miles to go. Not much for fuel stations along there and we just passed one when the low fuel light came on. I pulled off at the next exit and we went into town to find the only station had one pump and was still closed. Five miles down the back road was a casino with fuel. I put in more than I needed, hadn't planned on this extra stop.

From there we made it straight to the wash, I climbed up on mine to make sure it fit. When I had looked online it looked like there were big RV's washing next to a big building. And when we got there, there was a big RV sitting there, but not to be washed. Still sitting there when we left, no one around. I climbed up on top of mine to make sure the RV would fit in the bay, no signs saying how high would fit.

Went over it and got a ton of dirt off but some wouldn't come off unless I rubbed it and we are not supposed to use a brush ... also there was just enough room on each side to fit, but not the best angle to try and spray wash but it was good enough.

Fuel was two blocks away and then to the drop about another mile away. Four drivers ahead of us and one person checking us in. After the crowd thinned we talked to one guy a little ... shop talk.

Once we knew it was going to be a little while before we were checked in, BB decided to walk to Hertz to pick up our car. They are almost always in her name. Lots of homeless people and some were trying to engage her during her walk ...

Took about an hour and a half at the drop after an hour at the wash. So I was a little over on my time estimate.

There was a Boston Market at the end of the block from the drop, but BB had found a deli that was number three out of a hundred plus so we went there instead. Antonellis Deli, just an old small building at the edge of a junk yard type area. Huge sandwich, I had a chick salad and BB had a breakfast sandwich. We each ate half of ours and half of the other persons.

Now to juggle the cars. We should have just paid the extra $20 and dropped the first car at the airport instead of driving back to El Cajon. OR ... we could have walked the half mile with our luggage and spent $2 each to ride the train to the airport to get our second car.

The rental car area had changed since we were here two years ago so we had to loop around a couple of times to figure out were we were going. Then on the way back to El Cajon I got off on the wrong exit ... they don't use a lot of exit numbers and no mile markers.

I turned off right after a express way, just like I should have. Went past a Walmart that anchored a major mall, just like I should have. turned on Jackson just like I (thought) I should have. Crossed Fletcher right at the corner of the mall. But nothing looked right.

After checking my maps a few times and checking the cross street names ... I finally realized I had turned too soon. And the street I should have been on was Johnson not Jackson. I was miles from where I should have been. And then when I got were I was supposed to be I parked at Budget and waiting for BB ... who was waiting for me across the street at Hertz. She had spent plenty of time lost too ... not sure how we get where we are going clear across the country. And had never seen a Walmart anchor a major mall and here there were two within a few miles of each other.

No work yet so we had out to Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. It is out on Point Loma west of San Diego. We've been out here before but not to the Cemetery. Found the graves we were looking for and did some walking. Stopped and talked to someone taking down decorations and found out that when it says "in memory of ..." on the gravestone that there is no one buried there. Wreaths Across America had placed thousands of wreaths on graves there, but that only amounts to a few of the total buried there.

Still no work so we head up to Riverside. By then it will be dark and from there we can head straight east to get to I-10 or keep going up I-5 to Sacramento.

We find a cheap Comfort Inn there and eat at Coco's.

Homeless, they are everywhere. We saw a man dragging a baby stroller, I'm guessing to haul bags of belongings. Baby strollers, grocery carts, airport carts anything with wheels and at least one side. And interestingly, a lot of them are talking or texting on their phones as they push there carts.
