No alarm today. We eat breakfast and then BB decides to do laundry so we don't need to stop home before heading out again.

I had talked to our CA bus dispatcher yesterday and he was more interested than last time when he cut me off saying 'call me next month.' We had seen Atlanta buses on the way out here and I thought maybe ... but no. This guy keeps his core crew happy first and anyone else stays at the bottom as the main drivers become available.

But he did ask me to call him again today, and then again later today. He has two left going to Iowa City but they weren't ready today so we left ... but he does want me to call next time I am out as the bus company is going to be producing 40 a week.

Right away this AM there was a straight truck on the board from CA to Kansas City. By the time I found my phone and called it was gone. Oh, plugging your phone into two USB ports does not charge the phone.

We weren't quite ready to leave CA yet so we went to Riverside National Cemetery. Not only is it massive in size, it is the first one we have been at that has staging areas for the funerals of the day. And it seemed like the funerals are maybe 15 minutes apart. It seemed like we were waiting for a procession or were seeing the service people setting up the next 21 gun salute area.

We did find all the graves again today, but not nearly as much walking when you only have to look for graves in numerical order. Then when I went to leave I wanted a picture of the cemetery name, and ended up taking an illegal right behind/in front of a cop. My lucky day, he didn't stop me ... had to have seen me as he made a legal one as I was making the illegal one on red at a stop light.

Next stop was food at Sizzler. Haven't been to one in years, decades maybe. We just had the salad bar but everything was good and fresh and clean.

As we were leaving Sizzler, we had to wait for a van and then we pulled along side of it. It was a little older and smaller than ours. It had garbage bags strapped to the top, and the sliding doors were open so the tie downs had a place to anchor but the doors were also bungied shut. And the inside was packed all the way to the windshield on the passengers side. So basically the driver could see ahead and to their left. No exactly legal.

Still no work ... called my other driveaway company and asked if they had any work in or from CA. They asked "Why, are you in CA?" I should have answered "Why am in in CA? Because it is 70 here and 0 there." :)

We head east on I-10, stop at the only open rest area before getting to Desert Center. I had thought we could wait until Desert Center to stop but it's a good thing we didn't. Every building in town is now boarded up. From then on its 120 miles until the next freeway. Road is almost straight but lots of ups and downs, huge dips in the roads as if they just blacktopped over the sand dunes. Somewhere along this road there was a former town. Now the canopy over the gas pumps, fences are all covered in hanging ... shoes.

There is one little town somewhere out there at a crossroads. Sign at the cafe says 'Truckers Welcome,' that is most of what is on this road ...

We stop at the first rest area once we are on I-40 even though we are only a half hour from our motel. Long day, we get food at Carl Jrs (Hardees elsewhere.) They either have a Jr 1/8# burger or a 1/3# burger ... not a fan of those options.

Tonight we are at a Quality Inn in Kingman, we've been here before back when I was moving buses and BB was riding along.

The board was supposed to be down to 10 <> based on last year. Tonight it was over 160. There should still be work when we get back on Sat/Sun. Between 1/2 and 1/3 of those are going to CA. Nice long runs. We'll see what we get.

Likely will drive about 600 miles tomorrow and get to Tucumcarri then past Kansas City on Friday and somewhere in IA or MN by Saturday night.

Ohhhh ... bad internet last night and this AM. Not sure if that is why but Yahoo kicked me off and made me log in again ... and then asked for my security answer. It has never done that before and I had never set one up. So now I'm locked out of the account I use for all my family tree and driving stuff. Good luck of getting an answer from them. Nothing yet. I'm locked out of my account and filled out the online answers for someone locked out ... and after I hit send it says they will email their response ... to the email I am locked out of.

Fun.
