Up before we needed to, breakfast was being served, still dark out when we left the motel. First stop is the post office in Kingman, then the Flying J in Kingman for fuel.

Not too much for events today, first rest area was closed so we stopped at a Flying J a few miles down the road in Bellemont. Then on to a Navajo Travel Center in Chambers to eat at Subway. Not many other choices out here in the desert.

Next stop was at a rest area in Acoma Pueblo or Sky City. Interesting that the rest area closes at 2:30 pm ??? We were there by 1 pm. Then we remembered that gas in Albquerque was cheap, $1.95 so we stopped and filled there. We are up over 40 mpg in this VW, helps on the income. Then another rest stop in Vaughn.

Drove through Tucumcari, partly to look for a place to eat. Two motels on the west end of town have been burnt down, and the remains are still lying there. And half the in town motels that were open last time I drove through two years ago are now closed. Cheapest motel is now $31. Some are well kept and others are in need of major repair. Eat places have also closed ...

We ended up staying in the Quality Inn on the east end of town. And ate at the Branding Iron on site. Wireless was not working when we got there but it is now :)

We've been watching the work board but stuff comes and goes until 5 pm. Now we can make plans and backup plans in case someone dials in faster tomorrow AM. We are going to try to get down to NC as they now have work coming out of there again. Two pickups this week heading to Oregon. That would have been a great run.
